In the years leading up to the Great Recession, too often the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission could not find out about corporate frauds, securities violations, accounting frauds, or other violations until after large numbers of people had already been victimized and/or large sums of money had been lost. The SEC needed help to find out about those frauds and violations earlier, so that it could stop them before more people got hurt. In 2010, Congress gave the SEC that help by giving the SEC a comprehensive whistleblower award program as part of the Dodd-Frank Act. A year later, the SEC enacted a large body of rules governing its whistleblower award program. This gave rise to a new question: who is available to help potential whistleblowers navigate those rules and procedures so that they can give the SEC the help it needs? The answer is an SEC whistleblower attorney. But not just any attorney: an SEC whistleblower attorney NY City residents and employees, and residents and employees of other States, can have faith in.
A few months after the Dodd-Frank Act was passed, Jason R. Pickholz left a partnership at a large national firm to form The Pickholz Law Offices, with the goal of helping SEC whistleblowers. Since then, Mr. Pickholz has worked hard to become an SEC whistleblower attorney NY City can put its faith in. Mr. Pickholz was one of the first lawyers ever to win an SEC whistleblower award for a client. He was also the first lawyer ever to successfully convince the SEC to grant his client a whistleblower award over an initial recommendation by its staff not to grant one. Inside Counsel Magazine named this victory as one of the “Five milestones in the Dodd-Frank whistleblower reward program.” For related articles please click here (Boston Business Journal) and here (NY Times). In recognition of Mr. Pickholz’s achievements, he was elected by his peers to be a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation, an honor limited to just 1% of all lawyers in the New York State Bar Association.
